Ohio Custom Home Builder Wayne Homes Sponsors Chili Open for Charity

March 4, 2014

Wayne Homes, a custom home builder that specializes in on-your-lot homes, recently hosted the 24th Annual Chili Open in Akron, Ohio. The event, which raises funds to send special needs children to summer camp, drew more than 600 Wayne Homes employees, trade partners, customers, and corporate sponsors. More than $150,000 was raised during the one-day event.

“We are honored to be the title sponsor of the Chili Open again this year, and so proud to be a part of a community that supports families in need. We owe our employees, customers, trade partners and corporate sponsors a huge debt of gratitude for showing up in frigid temperatures to support local families,” said Wayne Homes President George Murphy.

During the event, more than 300 golfers competed on a 9-hole golf course in freezing temperatures, surrounded by 100 volunteers and nearly 200 spectators. After the round of golf, golfers and guests were treated to beer and more than 500 pounds of chili.

Contributions raised during the event will benefit the Akron Rotary Club to fund summer camp for 1,600 special needs children in the Akron area. According to Vice President of Marketing Maurie Jones, the program provides benefits to children and their caregivers.

“The annual event raises funds for families who tell us that Rotary Camp has given their children the ability to make meaningful friendships, build confidence, and learn new skills. It also gives caregivers an opportunity to recharge. That’s why so many people turn out in the middle of winter for this event each year, and why we’ll be here again next year,” says Jones.
