Uniontown, OH – On September 13, employees of Ohio-based custom home builder Wayne Homes volunteered and distributed clothing at Project Homeless Connect of Stark County at the Canton Civic Center.

Each year Project Homeless Connect hosts an event that networks those who are in danger of becoming homeless, are homeless or are getting re-established after being homeless with agencies and services that give them a hand up.

Wayne Homes employees volunteered for the event during work hours as part of the company’s Random Acts of Kindness program. Through the Random Acts of Kindness program employees are encouraged to contribute to the community where they live and work.

“At Wayne Homes, we feel that is very important to be an active part of your community, and it is even part of our company core values,” Stephanie Yates, Wayne Homes Steering Committee member said. “With living in Stark County for my entire life, it means so much to me that I am able to give back to those in my community who are in need and that the company I work for is so passionate about helping them as well.”

This year the company went beyond volunteering at the event and distributed sweatshirts and socks to those in need. With the help of trade partners, Wayne Homes was able to distribute over 3,000 pairs of socks and 730 sweatshirts.

“I love volunteering with Project Homeless Connect every year,” Brittany Burkhart said. “It’s a great way to give back to our community. This year the sock and sweatshirt hand out was a huge success and I could not be more proud of our company for providing that for so many people in need. To be able to see the looks on their faces when we handed them their items was an amazing feeling.”

A total of 26 Wayne Homes employees from the 10 offices volunteered during the event, including Jeremy Hill, Tracy Gershom, Dana Huntley, Brittany Burkhart, Laura Kerchner, Morgan Keener, John Logsdon, Cheryl Chamberlin, Chelsea Coughlan, Kathy Pierson, Mike Sanders, Amy Kraus, Ben Vogel, Keith Drollinger, William Boyd, Erin Collins, Jen Collinsworth, Chris Ward, Megan Moncrief, Mike Leckie-Ewing, Anne Fowkes, Katie Logsdon, Stephanie Lowe, Jennifer Kovach, Tiffany Ury and Stephanie Yates.

Many of the employees walked away from the event with touching personal experiences and appreciative attitudes.

“For my first time volunteering for this event, I had a heavy heart all day,” Jennifer Kovach said. “Seeing all kinds of folks come through there and each having a different priority of needs, truly made me appreciate what I have. I am proud I work for a company that supports this cause. It was a fulfilling experience and I would definitely do it again.”
