Discover our most popular two-story floorplans

When it comes to choosing your custom home, it’s easy to get caught up in the details. What color cabinets will work best with the countertops? What flooring makes the most sense? What drawer pull will create the contemporary look you’re going for? The list goes on!

Stepping back and looking at the big picture, though, can lend some perspective. One major detail that should be decided early on in the homebuilding process is, ranch or two-story home?

We’ve found families often have strong feelings about this question, and it often goes back to what kind of home they grew up in. Both styles offer distinct advantages worth considering, so today we’re taking a look at some of our most popular two-story floorplans featuring a main floor master down and sharing what makes them worthwhile. If you’re a fan of a classic two-story home, one of these floorplans could be for you!

Covington – The Covington is a classic floorplan that remains one of our most popular to date. Like the rest of the homes on this list, the master bedroom is located downstairs, separate from the rest of the bedrooms to provide a retreat for the heads of the home. The kitchen opens to a generous breakfast space that flows right into the great room, so if you love hosting parties, you won’t find a more ideal layout. And with the laundry located immediately off the owner’s entrance to the garage, you can keep dirty gear and equipment isolated from the rest of the home.

Cedar Hill – With the master bedroom downstairs, separate from the rest of the bedrooms in this 3-bedroom home, the Cedar Hill layout is perfect for the family who wants together time, but also values their privacy. The crown jewel of this home is the combination great room, kitchen, and breakfast nook, which all come together around an island with an eating ledge. Family time when you need it, privacy when you need time alone!

Brentwood – Speaking of privacy, the Brentwood provides privacy in the master suite in a way unlike any other floorplan. It’s practically it’s own wing, framing off the backyard while sharing a wall with the garage. In addition to this lovely, private space, you’ll enjoy a generous walk-in pantry for ample storage, and a large island that brings together the dining room and the great room — perfect for entertaining and family gatherings. Got a large family or love guests? The three bedrooms upstairs ensure you always have enough space.

Somerville – What the Somerville lacks in square footage, it makes up for in charm. The oversized master bedroom is downstairs, separate from the other two upstairs bedrooms, providing privacy, and the simple but functional living and kitchen space provides the ideal amount of room for time with family. This classic Cape Cod design isn’t for everyone, but if it’s for you chances are it’s absolutely perfect.

Winchester – If space is what you are looking for, you’ll find it in the Winchester. With more than 3,000 square feet, 3.5 bathrooms, and 4 bedrooms – including an ample master suite on the ground floor – you’ll have more space than you know what to do with! The master also features dual walk-in closets, too, so no more bumping elbows in the morning as you’re getting ready. The kitchen opens to the great room and breakfast nook, creating a lovely family space, plus the bonus den/office space provides a flexible area should you need it!
