Turns out, the only thing better than building a Wayne home is building a second Wayne home. Just ask Rob and Gina Sterett, who, after building their first Wayne home in Michigan back in 2002, just moved into their brand new Wayne home in Huron, Ohio.
The Steretts wanted to get settled into their new life as soon as possible. But instead of trying their luck on the resale market they opted to build new, with Wayne Homes.
“Our experience with Wayne Homes was so wonderful the first time, we thought, ‘well, this is an easy decision’,” Gina says. “We knew we would get in in a timely fashion, we knew we would get exactly what we wanted and we knew the quality was there.”
If you’ve ever built a new home, you may be surprised that somebody would go back to a homebuilder for another home.
“The process of building a new home is so complicated, many buyers get pretty frustrated with their builder,” says Todd Mowrer, Wayne Homes Construction Manager. “Which is why we’ve spent literally decades perfecting our process to make it a lot easier to get the home you’re dreaming about with no delays or surprises. Or at least no bad surprises.”
From pouring the foundation to turning the key, the Steretts’ home was done in about three-and-a-half months — a full two weeks ahead of schedule. Or less than six months from their first conversation with Lisa at the Wayne Homes New Home Center in Sandusky.
“They keep making us happy,” Rob says. “They’re two-for-two.”
And to think how the Steretts’ life could have been.
“There’s a family in town that’s been building for a year and they won’t be in until the summer,” Gina says. “I just shake my head. I mean, I hope they’re in by summer.”
But the Wayne Homes process isn’t purely about efficiency. It’s also about customization, and that’s where Wayne Homes really came through for the Steretts.
The first thing Wayne Homes had to do was figure out how to give two high-school girls, and a boy in middle school, their own bedrooms while also having enough bathrooms to go around. The solution: a Jack-and-Jill bathroom for the girls, reconfigured with a double vanity and a wall moved to just the right spot so both bedrooms were exactly the same size. (With teenagers, it’s important to be egalitarian.) The boy got his own bedroom, too, and a 3 ⁄ 4 bathroom.
Meanwhile, Rob and Gina have both comfort and privacy downstairs in the main-floor master.
The open-concept Saratoga floorplan — with space that flows between the kitchen and great room — allows for easy (and frequent) entertaining. The second floor has an open loft area where the kids hang out and the finished basement gives their teenagers yet another place to bring friends. All of which allows their home to be the place for kids to congregate. And the Steretts, like most parents, want to know where their kids are. So they’re more than okay with that.
The Steretts’ home attracts attention from adults, too. Located at the end of a cul-de-sac near a main road where it’s easy to see, people often stop to tell Rob and Gina how much they love it. Not a bad way to meet people in a new town.
“We’ve made our mark with this house,” says Rob. “We’ve gotten lots of compliments.”
Especially on the hipped-roof and exterior stone accents. In fact, from the custom kitchen island and countertops to the color palette to the staircase’s banister, the Wayne Homes design team helped the Steretts make their new home completely their own.
“It’s all the little customization touches that made it perfect for us,” Gina says. “You don’t know exactly how it’s going to look. And then it turns out better than you could’ve imagined.”
By building new, the Steretts were also able to cherry-pick the location of their new home. They chose a neighborhood near a great high school with a competitive volleyball program for their girls.
It’s now been over a year since the Steretts’ big move to Huron and they’re feeling right at home. That is, when they’re not at the lake. “We’ve got a boat and we go to the lake,” says Gina. “We’re lake people.”
So would the Steretts build a third Wayne home, perhaps one with a boat dock? “In a heart beat,” says Gina. “When we find that lot on the lake we’re going to call Wayne Homes. We have big plans.”
