Landscaping tips with expert Matt Rabbitt
Since we’ve been in this business for a while, we’ve developed some good relationships and partnerships with other professionals in similar industries. One of those is Matt Rabbitt with Rabbitt Landscaping.
We sat down with Matt to talk about his best tips for making a great landscaping game plan. We also created a Pinterest board to get your creative juices flowing. Here’s what he shared!
What new landscaping trends should we keep an eye out for?
We’re seeing a lot more vegetable gardens lately, as well as a focus on landscaping to specifically attract butterflies and birds. Gardeners also are interested lately in water features for soothing noises, as well as nicely lit flower beds.
How should a beginner gardener get started?
There are a few tips to keep in mind. When planting, plant in odd numbers. Focus highly on creating nutrient dense soil, and make sure you are planting your flowers at the right time of year. Limelight Hydrangea, Peonies, Phlox, Knockout (red and pink) Roses, Liriope, and Weigela are several types of plants that can transform an average yard into an amazing yard!
When’s the best time to plant?
Early spring is a good time. If you have to plant later in the season, be conscious of how you water. Approximately 15 minutes of watering in the early morning (before the excessive heat) and 15 minutes during the evening. Make sure to water as close to the base of the plant as you can. Never water the foliage in the brunt of the heat!
Any tips for budget landscapers?
Pruning, edging, and mulching are small things that can make a huge difference with minimal expense. Annuals add a great pop to your yard at a fraction of the cost of perennials. Also, ask friends and relatives with mature gardens to help you replant your yard.
Any proactive lawn care tips?
I recommend using fertilizer two times a year, first in April or May and later in September and October. It will be a big difference year round!
Matt is truly an expert at what he does, and we’re lucky to know him and witness the magic he can work in a homeowner’s yard.
