Meet the Team: The Estimating Department
An important part of the home building puzzle is accurately predicting the quantity of materials necessary to build a new home and what those materials will cost. Enter the Wayne Homes Estimating Department. These talented men and women create and provide accurate estimates to our construction teams.
They also complete margin analyses on homes and provide their expert feedback when necessary. As such, they’re an integral part of the homebuilding process, and we’d like to introduce you to some of the professionals who make up this crucial department.
Rich Shaffer is an estimator who’s coming up on his three-year anniversary with our team. In fact, he started his career with us! When we asked about his favorite thing about his job, the response was swift and decisive: the people he works with are what makes his job worthwhile. The added unique benefits that come with being a Wayne Homes employee are a close second!
He’s working diligently to move up to Estimator II level, and hopes to take on that role soon. In his spare time, he spends time with his wife, Lauren – a high school Spanish teacher – their dog Cooper, and cat Charlie. Competitive sports are a passion of his, and he enjoys exercising, basketball, and any other competitive avenue. That includes watching sports, and rooting on the Cleveland Cavaliers at every opportunity.
Our Estimating Manager, Ken Mowery has also been with Wayne Homes for about three years, and has been in his current role for two. He worked his way up to the role, starting with our company as an Estimator, then Estimator II, then moving into his current role.
Ken said he loves that his job lets him be involved at a variety of levels within the homebuilding process. Not only does he enjoy mentoring his team members, but he loves having a deep understanding of the business, and especially appreciates going home each day knowing he’s making a positive difference in people’s lives.
He and his wife Lori have four children as well as two dogs – quite a handful! – but he still loves to make time for fishing and coaching his son’s baseball team.
These two gentleman are not only strong components of our Estimating Department; they make Wayne Homes as an organization stronger every day. We’re lucky to have them, and if you get a chance to speak with them, hope you enjoy your time with them as much as we do!
