Holiday Decor Trends

Decorated model homes this season

‘Tis the season to deck the halls…so, how are you decking the halls for the holidays?

If you’re looking for some inspiration, look no further because Kelly Cappelletti, owner of Kelly’s Suite II Interior Design, has shared her expert advice on what’s new in holiday decor.

2020 Holiday Decor Trends:

Go Natural

Kelly says the most popular trend for holiday décor this year is to keep it natural. “Deck your halls using real touch pines and cedars, and don’t be afraid to mix them all together. Then, dress it up with simple satin ribbons tied in droopy bows,” Kelly advises. This technique is quick, easy to do, and always looks great!

Make It Personal

Developing a theme for your holiday home decor is a great way to incorporate your personal style. “You should look at your current environment to see what color scheme will work best with your existing surroundings. Then, incorporate that color scheme when building your holiday décor, using ribbons, ornaments, and other personal touches that reflect your style!”

Achieve a Cohesive Look

It’s common today to have an open concept home. So when thinking of holiday décor, it’s more important than ever that all your spaces flow together from one room to the next. One simple way to do this, says Kelly, is to use the same simple evergreens in every space. By doing this, it will allow you to change your theme, your colors and any style ribbons in various rooms without making your decorations look pieced together and scattered. Remember, it’s all about a natural, “bring the outdoors in” look-and-feel this year, so no need to go overboard!

Budget tip: One of Kelly’s favorite things to decorate with this time of year is live evergreens and twigs.

And in many cases, you can get them right in your own backyard! So grab the family and a pair of snips and see what you can find! You can use your findings to create a dining room table centerpiece or simply mix them in with artificial décor. This will give you a natural look, and your home will have that fresh pine scent that is a must-have in every holiday home! Bonus? Free and fresh live evergreens from the yard stretch your holiday decor budget further.
