UNIONTOWN, OH — After 35 years of service, we’re both celebrating and bidding farewell to Tom Benedict as he retires —marking 36 years at Wayne Homes.
Tom’s journey with Wayne Homes began in 1986, when he joined as an Estimator at a time when Wayne Homes was just beginning to shift towards becoming a systems-driven company. Under the leadership of Dave Showers, Tom played a pivotal role in shaping many of the systems and processes that are still in place today. His contributions include implementing the purchase order system, developing estimating and CAD processes, and creating tools like detailed prints, scopes of work, and the selection guide.
Throughout the years, Tom’s leadership grew, and he played an essential role in Wayne Homes’ success during pivotal times, including the transition during the Centex acquisition in 1998 and later, the company’s regrowth after the “Great Recession.” In 2001, he became the VP of Purchasing, where he fostered partnerships with manufacturers and developed strong relationships that helped Wayne Homes thrive.
Tom has been integral to the implementation of multiple back-office software systems and has shared his knowledge at industry events, including national podcasts and panel discussions at the International Builders Show.
Not only has Tom been dedicated to his work at Wayne Homes, but his personal connection to the company runs deep. Tom and his wife, Wilma, built multiple Wayne Homes, and their family has also chosen Wayne Homes for their builds.
Now, after decades of service, Tom is ready to embark on his next adventure—traveling with Wilma, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and offering his time to local non-profits. His next chapter includes enjoying life and “putzing” around in his shop, doing small projects for friends and family.
