Uniontown, OH – Wayne Homes cleaned out, and Habitat for Humanity cleaned up. The homebuilder is freshening up one of its homes at the Portage Model Home Center. So the company decided that the best thing to do with the high-end, barely-used furniture in the old model was to give it to those who need it most. The furniture is valued at approximately $15,000.
The recipient, Habitat for Humanity, is a non-profit organization known for rallying volunteers and donors to build and furnish homes for homeless and impoverished families around the world. They were ecstatic to receive the gift.
Brian Reitz, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity in Portage, along with four other employees and volunteers loaded everything – including couches, chairs, wall hangings and table settings – into two large box trucks. But there was some question as to whether they’d be able to get everything to fit.
“We’re very good at Tetris,” Reitz said, referring to the popular video game in which the objective is to fit a variety of shapes together in such a way that the space on your screen doesn’t fill up.
Alan Longstreth, Wayne Homes Portage Construction Manager, has an ongoing relationship with Habitat for Humanity and arranged for the pick-up. “We try to keep our models fresh, and it was time to move on with something new,” Longstreth says. “I can’t think of a more worthy organization than Habitat to benefit from Wayne’s good fortunes. It’s a great way to do some good.”
