Wayne Homes Works with Local Outreaches

October 24, 2014

Each year, Project Homeless Connect, a national volunteer outreach in over 220 communities, hosts a local day-long event for homeless families and individuals, those who are at risk for homelessness, or people getting re-established within the community. Wayne Homes employees seized the opportunity this year to contribute their time and talent by assisting local agencies and services that provide event attendees with significant support in these vital areas:

  • Housing Information
  • Health Care Information
  • Employment Services
  • Behavioral Health Services
  • Legal Assistance
  • Food Benefits
  • Clothing and Personal Care services

Wayne Homes teammates conversed with attendees during the intake process about their living situations. Guides then escorted folks through stations sponsored by local agencies, and volunteers then helped prioritize their three most important needs. After participants visited the stations, another group of Wayne Homes teammates conducted a feedback survey. Prior to leaving the event, a nutritious lunch was served and kits of essentials that included socks, deodorant, and toothbrushes were given.

Like Project Homeless Connect, Wayne Homes’ Random Acts of Kindness campaign is designed to reach those in need. During the campaign, which takes place over the holidays each year, the team at each Wayne Homes Model Home Center chooses a local charity to sponsor. For more than a month, each Model Home Center becomes a drop-off point for donations from employees, partners, homeowners, and visitors. Local charities included Safe Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter, Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Toys for Tots, and more. Wayne Homes’ Random Acts of Kindness campaign has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local families and individuals over the past six years.

“The Random Acts of Kindness campaign is one of the highlights of the year for our company. It’s an opportunity for our partners, customers, and employees to come together with a shared commitment and compassion for the community. It’s something that our team members look forward to every year,” said Wayne Homes President George Murphy.
As an industry-leading custom home builder, Wayne Homes has been meeting needs for over 40 years. Project Homeless Connect and Random Acts of Kindness are significant ways for the company and its employees to live out their commitment to build and support local community whenever possible.
