How to Create a Classic Craftsman Look in Your New Home

Want to know how to transform the interior of a modern new home into a charming, classic craftsman style home?

Older craftsman style homes are known for their rich architectural design, but can often come with a host of problems: high utility bills, appliance and flooring replacement costs, and unforeseen repairs.

Fortunately, you can turn any one of the 40 custom home floor plans that we offer into a classic craftsman style home. Here are two side-by-side versions of our popular Chelsea plan to show you some of the limitless possibilities for designing your own custom home.

Inviting Entry

Although both of the homes shown above are the Chelsea floor plan, one family opted for a modern look while the other re-created a classic craftsman entry. Notice the craftsman style door, woodwork around the staircase, and craftsman light fixture.  The home includes modern design elements such as recessed lighting and rocker switches to create a perfect blend of old and new.

Classic Kitchen

The kitchen and family room on the left incorporates a more modern kitchen peninsula and upstairs loft area that overlooks below. On the right, this family chose a more classic, open layout with craftsman style wood frames around the windows, white cabinetry, and a fireplace that appears to have been in the home for 100 years, even though it’s brand new.

Lovely Living Areas

The classic craftsman style continues upstairs with hardwood flooring, paneled interior doors, and craftsman style hardware for door handles and hinges. The woodwork on the staircase gives the home the rich architectural elements that craftsman homes are known for, while the home on the left has a lighter and more modern feel.

Architectural Detail

They say that design is in the details, and that’s definitely true when re-creating a classic craftsman home. Woodwork, light fixtures, crown molding and other design details can transform a home. At Wayne Homes, you can mix and match elements to create just the right style to match your taste and budget.
