Farmhouse and Cottage Chic Made Easy Yet Affordable

Farmhouse and cottage chic interior styles are huge right now.
Farmhouse and cottage chic interior styles are huge right now.

Believe it or not, it’s easier (and more affordable) than you think to achieve this welcoming, simply chic look in your home. When you build with Wayne Homes, we have a set of Included Features that allow you to stick to the base price of the home you have selected. Or, you can save some of your money for other customizations you may have in mind, such as a deck or three-car garage.

Some builders call these “standard features,” but at Wayne, our Included Features are anything but standard. Here are a few examples of Included Features that are big on farmhouse and cottage chic style:

  • Wilsonart marble-look laminate countertops for that clean, chic style.
  • Craftsman-style interior doors that add the character that farmhouse style is known for.
  • Mannington® vinyl flooring, which you can see a great example of in the Richmond II model home. It features the Benchmark Deco Wrought Iron vinyl flooring in the laundry room, and it’s a great choice for cottage or farmhouse styles.
  • Landmark Lifetime shingles are included, which are the perfect crown to your ideal cottage or farmhouse-style home. Popular choices are the darker colors to contrast with exterior white siding.

Once you’ve got the basics down, making the most of the Included Features in your Wayne home, it’s time to add the finishing touches to your farmhouse/cottage style home.

Turn Up the Coziness

An important step in creating the cottage home of your dreams is making it comfortable. Cottage chic and farmhouse style is all about a fresh, relaxed and cozy environment that says “welcome home”. Think slipcovered couches in an off-white or country-inspired pattern. Easy chairs with a side table for your cup of tea, a warm blanket draped over it and a reading lamp so you can dive into a good book.

Keep Lighting Warm

Thank goodness you can get LED lights in warm white because harsh, blue-based light has no place in a farmhouse-style home. Use a mix of floor and table lamps to create a warm, inviting ambiance you and your guests will love. Use dimmers with your chandeliers or recessed lighting to achieve the warm look you’re going for in your farmhouse or cottage-style home.

Add Character for a Lived-In Feel

When picking up home decor items for your farmhouse or cottage-style home, choose natural materials and select weathered finishes whenever possible. If you are building a new home, take this approach when choosing fixtures and finishes. For example, choose weathered oak-look floors. Farmhouses feel lived in. Always consider if the pieces you pick up look like they could have been passed down through generations. Even if they’re brand new. And, choose muted tones over vibrant colors. When in doubt, choose white. You’ll love how your cottage chic home feels fresh and cozy at the same time.
