Wayne Homes Events: Annual Chili Open
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s chilly Chili Open!
The annual Wayne Homes event took place on a snowy Sunday earlier this month as employees, customers, trade partners and corporate sponsors turned out for the fundraising event. Proceeds raised during the event benefitted the Akron Rotary Club’s efforts to send special needs kids to Summer Camp.
Wayne Homes has been the title sponsor for the last 11 years of the 23rd annual event and this year over 400 golfers and 200 spectators braved frigid temperatures and falling snow to participate. 9 holes and several dozen lost orange balls later, golfers were rewarded with a bowl of hot chili and cold beer.
More than 500 pounds of chili were consumed (though there was no official count on beer). Several dozen orange golf balls were also “donated” until the Spring thaw.
All in all, the event raised more than $153,000 to help send over a thousands special needs kids to the Portage Lake YMCA Summer Camp.
