Breaking records at the annual Chili Open Golf Classic
Over the years, we’ve been lucky in that many of the families we work with stay in touch. They become part of the Wayne Homes family the second they walk in the door of their custom home.
To keep that family strong, we like to sponsor a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. Our most important charitable event of the year is the Chili Open Golf Classic Presented by Wayne Homes, a golf tournament that really tests participants’ mettle! We’re in the 26th year of this event and are extremely proud that it’s been running for that long, and has raised so much for the Akron Rotary Camp! The Rotary Camp provides camping experiences for kids with special needs. We’re very proud to be a part of this effort. Not only does the camp give these kids the experience of a lifetime it also provides their care takers with a much needed respite and time to re-charge.
It’s a truly arctic experience, but that didn’t deter the 550+ people who participated (including 133 Wayne Homes employees, family and friends) from gathering and raising more than $220,000 for the Camp!
We raised $30,000 more than we raised last year. The event is held at scenic Hale Farm and Village in Bath, OH. Golfers were challenged to drive shots across the frozen tundra and putt balls coated in ice. Participants also enjoyed the chili eating contest, as well as a raffle, silent auction, putt-putt and other games for the whole family.
The temps were chilly but the sun was out, the sky was blue, and the cold air didn’t do much to dampen anyone’s spirits. It was a record-breaking year, and we can’t wait to do it again next year – as long as our fingers and toes warm up by then! Will you join us?
