December 23, 2015

Employees of custom home builder Wayne Homes volunteered and prepared meals for families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Akron, Ohio earlier this month.

Uniontown, OH – On December 2nd, employees of Ohio-based custom home builder Wayne Homes volunteered and prepared dinner for over 50 residents at the Ronal McDonald House of Akron, OH.The House provides a temporary home for families when their loved ones are being treated at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The Ronald McDonald House is made up of a dedicated team of volunteers. These individuals typically spend their time cleaning, stocking shelves, baking, prepping meals, baking, washing towels, and just being present in the House in case families may need something. Other volunteer duties include being in charge of processing food donations and keeping the main pantry supplies labeled and rotated.

Employees of Wayne Homes volunteered during work hours as part of the company’s Random Acts of Kindness program. Through the Random Acts of Kindness program employees are encouraged to contribute to the community where they live and work.

“With all the stress and financial burden that having a sick child can create, it’s rewarding to give these families one less thing to worry about,” stated Wayne Homes New Home Consultant, Madison Byers. “A home cooked meal is ready for them at the same time every evening. The staff at the Ronald McDonald House is passionate about helping these families through a difficult time and they do a fantastic job of coordinating volunteers.””

In the past several years, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron has been operating at its capacity. In 2014, the Ronald McDonald house provided 6,048 nights of lodging for more than 12,800 individuals. Plans to expand the House are scheduled to being in the spring of 2016 by adding an additional 40 rooms and expanding the common areas. In doing this, the House will triple the number of families who will find comfort there while their child receives care at Akron Children’s Hospital.

“Each year, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron is funded through the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations,” stated Development Director, Jeannette Andreski. “Through their support, the House keeps families together when it matters most. It is a place of comfort, warmth, and compassion.”
