The Chelsea: Newest floorplan combines affordable with lovable

August 16, 2010

There’s an easy way to design an affordable home and a not-so-easy way. The easy (and typical) way is to reduce the quality and style of the home. The not-so-easy way is to pour in more thoughtfulness: to make the available space work harder and live better. With their new two-story floorplan, the Chelsea, Wayne Homes took the hard way.

“Our first priority is always to create a home that lives well,” says Maurie Jones, vice president of marketing for Wayne Homes. “That’s what we’re known for, and that’s what we did with the Chelsea.”

Working with a little over 1,800 square feet, Wayne Homes was somehow able to give the Chelsea three bedrooms (one of which is a very nice master suite), two and a half baths, a home office, an island kitchen, an upstairs loft, a great room, dining room and a full laundry room. All this for a price in the low $100s.

“And the numbers are just the beginning of the story,” Jones explains. “The great thing about the Chelsea is how well the space works — and how open and elegant it feels.” The great room, for example, has a two-story ceiling. This not only makes the great room feel bright and spacious, it creates an inspiring view for the upstairs loft. The foyer also has a two-story ceiling. And a little space upstairs, bordered on two sides by a half-wall that overlooks the stairway and foyer, serves as a sort of vestibule to the master suite. “It’s very dramatic,” Jones says.

As with all the homes built by Wayne, the Chelsea is covered by a set of industry-leading warranties and guarantees. There’s the Energy Smart Guarantee, which ensures that each Wayne home meets a high level of energy efficiency. And the Guaranteed Completion Date, which says the home will be completed within 120 days after the foundation is poured. And Wayne’s two-year Fit and Finish Warranty is twice as long as what other builders offer.

It appears that Wayne has created another winner. The first Chelsea sold just two days after the floorplan was released and several more will likely sell within the month. “We work hard to make our homes easy to buy,” says Jones. “But the main point is to make them easy to love.”
