Tips for hosting an end-of-summer bash
Summer is, for many families, the best time of the year. The fact it’s coming to an end might be a bit of a bummer, but rather than letting it fizzle out, enjoy the last few days of this lovely season with an end of season party, one that takes full advantage of your home’s entertaining abilities and outdoor space!
To get you in a festive mood, here are some tips and ideas for hosting an end of summer party that will be one for the books.
Keep the kids entertained. Use a portion of your deck, porch or yard as a designated kids entertainment area. That way, the kids will be happy, and so will mom and dad, because they’ll have a chance to relax and have a cocktail! Bubbles, drawing supplies, scavenger hunt games, puzzles, even a homemade slip and slide with a sprinkler are all good ideas for keeping kids occupied and happy.
Keep things cool. Providing icy cold refreshments is a surefire way to keep the heat at bay, but consider other options, such as adding an awning or large umbrellas to your outdoor space, providing handheld fans, or even create a batch of cold compresses using cheap washcloths stored in an icy cooler for guests to grab and enjoy.
Keep it simple. Warm weather and summer vibes will mean guests aren’t going to be interested in a 5-course meal, so don’t overdo it. Make your life easier by serving up handheld snacks and meals on large platters, such as slices of fresh fruit, hotdogs, hamburgers, and other traditional but much-loved summertime fare. Consider asking guests to bring a side dish of choice to keep your workload down.
Keep it neat. Discreetly placed but easily accessed garbage pails will be an important part of keeping the party clutter-free. Don’t force your guests to leave their dirty cups and paper plates on the windowsill or cocktail table: make sure there is ample opportunity for them to dispose of their garbage appropriately.
It may be a season of change, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy summer while it’s still here!
