The 30th annual Akron Chili Open Golf Classic, presented by Wayne Homes, raised more than $300,300 for the Akron Rotary Camp for Children with Special Needs.
Uniontown, OH – The 30th annual Akron Chili Open Golf Classic, presented by Wayne Homes, was held on Saturday, February 1 at Hale Farm and Village in Bath, Ohio and raised over $300,300 for the Akron Rotary Camp for Children with Special Needs.
The Chili Open is an annual event that raises funds to send children and adults with developmental disabilities to summer camp and aid operational costs of the camp.
“The Akron Rotary Camp is an organization we very much value and appreciate and it is very important to me,” George Murphy, President and CEO of Wayne Homes, said. “The work that the Rotary Camp does in the community is one that really resonates with our employees and we look forward to many more decades supporting the Rotary Camp and the Akron Rotary Foundation.”
Over 500 supporters, including 56 Wayne Homes employees along with their families and friends attended the Chili Open. The day consisted of arctic golf, all-you-can-eat Whitey’s chili, silent auctions, door prizes, raffle tickets, a chili eating contest, and more.
“We are always so grateful for Wayne Homes and all of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers who help us make a difference in our campers’ lives each year,” Wanda Whipkey, who co-chaired the event with Dr. Rob McGregor, said. “In 2019 the camp served 1,052 children and adults through day and overnight summer camping programs. No camper is ever turned away for their inability to pay.”
