Wayne Gives Back: Connecting During Covid

Giving back to the communities we serve is a hallmark of our business.

That’s why over the past year, we’re proud we’ve given back in many ways, from supporting local businesses by giving away gift certificates to raising money and getting donations for Toys for Tots during the holidays.

This year, however, there were a whole new set of challenges with the Covid-19 pandemic keeping people distanced. Even though we weren’t able to get together like we usually do, we still found ways to stay connected.

Our homeowners are our lifeline. Without our amazing network of homeowners, our company would simply not be what it is today. When you build with Wayne, you become part of our extended family. Our customers become clients, and our clients become dear friends. And the relationship doesn’t end after closing day–we make every effort to keep in touch with our homeowners, so you always feel supported and still part of our family.

Love Your Locals:

Last spring when the pandemic began, we wanted to support local businesses so we replaced our Tuesday Trivia contest (on Facebook every Tuesday) with Love Your Locals. We had our followers comment about their favorite businesses and gave one winner each week a $25 gift certificate to the business they referenced. Here are some of the businesses we supported during this contest:

  • Create, Restore & More – Mansfield, Ohio
  • Court Grill – Pomeroy, Ohio
  • Handels – Northeast Ohio
  • Royal Docks Brewery – Massillon, Ohio
  • Cocina De Carlos – Perrysburg and Waterville, Ohio
  • Seans Pub & Eatery – Garrettsville, Ohio
  • El Patron Mexican Cuisine – Seville, Ohio
  • Winans Chocolates + Coffees – Central Ohio
  • Christian Roberts Salon & Spa – Norwalk, Ohio
  • Vault Wine Bar – Shelby, Ohio
  • Jubilee Donuts – Akron, Ohio
  • Cid’s Smokehouse – Senecaville, Ohio
  • Orchard Bar & Table – Port Clinton, Ohio

Toys for Tots:

This year, between December 1 and December 10, the Wayne Homes team collected toys and monetary donations for Toys for Tots. This was company-wide. This year was our second year supporting the Toys for Tots organization. Last year we had customers donate toys at each of our Model Centers and a toy drive at our home office, but due to Covid, we were not able to do that this year. In total, our team raised over $8,700.00 for Toys for Tots and that doesn’t even include the toys that were donated also. It warmed our hearts to see the Christmas tree at our home office with tons of toys under it for some very deserving little boys and girls.

Chili Open:

This year we set a new record for the Chili Open! The Chili Open raised $312,486 this year for the Rotary Camp for Children with Special Needs. The Chili Open is a philanthropic event that raises funds to send children and adults with developmental disabilities to summer camp and aid operational costs of the camp. Because of the Chili Open, no child is denied the chance to attend camp because of their inability to pay. This year, our goal was to raise $300,000 and we exceeded that! All camperships were sponsored and the money raised will help with the operating cost of the camp this year. In addition to Wayne Homes’ title sponsorship funds and additional donations, we raised over $7,400 just in raffle ticket sales…all thanks to you!

Thanks for being part of the Wayne Homes community. Do you have a local business you’d like to support or an idea for a community-building event? Contact us! We’d love to hear from you.
