Wayne Homes 21st Annual Chili Open!
Have you ever seen grown men and women chasing orange golf balls through fields full of snow? You could have witnessed it last Saturday, as more than 400 folks from all over Ohio did just that at the annual Wayne Homes Chili Open.
This year marked the 21st gathering of high-spirited, charity-minded, crazy people who had more fun than should be allowed for an early February get-together at Hale Farm & Village in Bath.
Extreme sports call for extreme weather and the recipe was just what the chef ordered for this event. Start with two feet of ice-encrusted snow, add temperatures in the high 20’s, and finish off with a dash or two of light flurries—utter perfection!
Why would all these polar bears have an annual reunion in the snow? To create even more year-round smiles for special needs kids and adults throughout Northeast Ohio. The Wayne Homes Chili Open is the major fund raiser of The Akron Rotary Club and its wonderful summer camp on the Portage Lakes shores.
Last year, sponsor and golfer donations made it possible for over 1,700 children to either spend a full week at camp or attend a special respite weekend, professionally cared for by trained personnel from the Y. It’s a win-win-win for all, as the campers’ parents and care-givers also get time to recharge from their 24-7 responsibilities. Take a look at the pictures, The Chili Open creates smiles all around!
